Teaching Methods of the Teacher That You Observed
As what I observed, the teaching methods that the teacher commonly used is the direct instructions. Even mathematics is more be remembered using the discovery approach, the teacher usually used direct method of teaching because the student also is one of the biggest factor on determining what kind of method the teacher will be using. And I can see that the method that the teacher is using is still effective and the students still are active and interested and learning the lesson.
Based also on the sample lesson plan that my mentor gave to me, I saw that the method she uses is the discussion and assignment. This is also what I observed on my first week at SMA Laboratorium UNSYIAH. The teacher will directly discuss the lesson, throw some question, give some activity sheets and if it is already time, It will become an assignment of the students.
Any method of teaching is effective I think depends on how you deal it with your students. Because I believe that there is no such thing as best method. Any method can be used as long as it will cater the needs of the learners.
Their Teaching Materials and Innovation
In teaching mathematics, common teaching materials is enough to teach it and for the students to learn it. Common teaching materials that I observed to my mentor are laptop, projector, whiteboard, textbooks, and activity sheets. The topic that my mentor discussed is about graph of trigonometric functions. It is implied that all those teaching materials are already enough to teach the topic. About innovations, using the mathematical software such as geogebra is being used. Geogebra is a useful software for the students to visualize more the different kind of functions.
Sources of Learning and Technology Used By The Teachers
The sources of learning and technology used by my teachers are available in SMA Laboratorium UNSYIAH. Different teaching materials is readily available, computers, printers, speakers, traditional technology, textbooks at library are accessible. My mentor Tuty Hannah is great mathematics teacher. If I’m not mistaken she has already undergo post graduates that will highly contribute as a source of learning.
Authentic Assessment Used By The Teachers
Examples authentic assessment used by my teacher that is very observable is the direct assessment. It happens when students suddenly ask some question to the teacher or vice versa. Through direct assessment, short but important details may be highlighted and not forgotten easily. Another authentic assessment I observed is using activity sheets intended for each students. Assessment is done commonly at the end of instruction. Activity sheet is given after my mentor discussed the lesson. Students may try to answer it by themselves but sometimes if they find it very hard, they ask so much assistance form the classmates not from the teacher. So, the individual assessment becomes a collaborative assessment which I think an effective one.
